Chromolith HPLC Columns

High speed, high performance in monolithic form

Chromatographers today seek ways to analyse more samples – by speeding up the separation process, and therefore analysis. Merck’s Chromolith® HPLC Columns provide excellent separations in a fraction of the time taken by standard 5 μm particulate columns, at half the column back pressure.

Typical particulate HPLC columns are filled with silica particles of 3 or 5 microns. Despite its high separation performance, such small particle size limits the speed of analysis and column length, plus reduces column lifetime from blockages and the lifetime of HPLC instrument and injector seals at high pressure.

Chromolith® HPLC Columns from Merck, however, are not filled with minute silica particles like conventional packed HPLC columns, but consist of a single rod of high purity monolithic silica with a revolutionary bimodal pore structure. Its macropores dramatically reduce the column back pressure to enable faster flow rates, thereby considerably reducing the analysis time. While mesopores form the fine porous structure, and provide a large active surface area for highly efficient separations.
